Frances
Relaxing into her forever home and family
Frances is a darling cocker girl who ended up in a shelter in 2019 after her owner had a medical emergency. She was adopted and then taken back to the same shelter a few years later when she started having accidents and could no longer climb the stairs in the family home. The shelter noted that Frances seemed to have many untreated health conditions common to this breed. She was deaf from chronic ear infections, suffered from skin allergies, and badly needed a dental. She also had arthritis in her back end and her blood work indicated that her accidents were most likely a result of early kidney disease.
Little did Frances know that her luck was about to change and Old Dog Haven would make sure she would never be homeless again. Frances is now safe in a final refuge foster home and surrounded by other happy senior dogs. She was seen by a veterinarian who prescribed medications to treat her ear infections and arthritis. She is now on a prescription diet to manage her kidney disease and help her gain some weight.
Her forever family reports that two months later, Frances is starting to become more comfortable and has settled into her new home. She is reportedly a very gentle, quiet house guest and gets along perfectly with her senior foster brothers and sisters. She loves to explore the yard and then come inside and circle the kitchen looking for food before heading straight to her comfy bed to nap much of the day away. The light is returning to her eyes, and she now feels safe. Her foster mom tells us, “We are so thankful to Old Dog Haven for allowing Frances a chance to know that she matters to someone. It is so wonderful that another senior dog will know care, comfort and so much joy this holiday season!”
Thank you to all of our supporters who continue to make miracles happen for senior dogs like Frances. We are forever grateful!
Update: Sadly Frances’ health declined and her loving family had to say goodbye after five months. She spent those months enjoying lots of love, time to explore and a great pack of other ODH dogs. Such a lovely girl who will be missed.
