Meet Ginger, a 12-year-old senior girl. She is a spayed, purebred German Shorthaired Pointer who weighs about 43 pounds.

Ginger was purchased as a puppy and then rehomed at 10 years old to the wrong people. She was forced to live outside, not fed every day, and neglected to the point where she nearly lost her life. When her rescuers were told about Ginger, they knew they needed to help her. Despite everything she has endured, Ginger is still gentle and trusting.

She has been thoroughly vetted and is in remarkably good shape considering her history. Ginger does have some age-related ailments. She has arthritis and incontinence, partly due to a UTI—but both have already been addressed and are improving. A few things may take more time and thoughtful management, which is why her rescuers are looking for an experienced senior adopter.

Ginger has recently moved to a rescue foster home where she is living with 2 male GSPs, and they are doing well as long as they are fed separately, since she protects her food. With proper introductions, she can be around other mellow dogs her size. This is good, helpful news!

Ginger is very food-driven and adorably intense at mealtime. She tippy taps for food and sometimes barks. Ginger will benefit from added enrichment throughout the day. She would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time.

She appreciates short, easy walks focused on sniffing and decompressing. Ginger is good on leash in areas where the environment is calm and quiet. She is excellent in the car and calm for vet visits.

Ginger will thrive in a home where she can get plenty of sleep and a predictable, peaceful routine. Ginger doesn’t need perfection. She needs consistency. Ginger needs someone who understands that loving a senior isn’t about how long you have—it’s about how much it matters.

If you or someone you know is truly all in for old dogs and located in Washington State, this is your chance to change the ending for a girl who has lost far too much. Ginger is ready for her soft landing.

Ginger is posted for Juno’s Den Rescue. She is being fostered in Bothell, WA. For more information about Ginger and adopting her please email: junosdenwa@gmail.com

Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
