“Hello there! My name is Grumpy but please don’t let that stop you from reading my story. I am 11 years old and I weigh about 20 pounds. I’m a little on the chunky side, but with a good diet, regular veterinary care, and regular exercise, I could shed a pound or so and look and feel my best.

“I need to find an adoptive home very soon. My person left my home suddenly to go live in a place called “assisted living”. I lived with dogs and a cat, and when people came to collect us, I did not know what was happening so I ran! I was scared and confused. Why were people trying to take us away from our home? Where was our dad?! I spent 2 days outside, alone until my person’s family member found me and brought me to her home. I got lucky, I guess. I could have been hit by a car or just lost and roaming forever!

“Once I got to my current place, I got a bath. I was stinky and dirty. Let me tell you that bath felt good! I didn’t have a great diet, and I had fleas at one point, but I’m doing better now, just from being here for a few days. I can’t stay here, it’s against the rules so time is short for me. No one wants me to go to a shelter, and those around here are all full!

“I am a very good boy. My name does not describe me at all! If you want to change my name, you could do that. I am ready for a new name with a new life. My caregiver will tell you that I am a very loving boy once I get to know you. I like to cuddle underneath covers with you, and I will be your shadow when you are at home. I have been through a lot of change in a short time so please keep that in mind, give me a little time to learn to trust you and get used to a new home, and you won’t regret it!

“I have lived with other dogs and I do just fine. I lived with a cat, but I’ve never lived with young kids. It would probably be best for me not to go a home with young kids since I can be protective of myself if someone tries to grab me (can you blame me?). I will bark at new dogs and new people when I meet them but once I get to smell and meet them, I will stop when I am told to.

“So far I am doing well not having accidents where I am staying but my caregiver is making sure to get me out when she’s home. I stay here when she has to leave the house for work, it is not a full work day though. During that time I stay in her bedroom behind a baby gate with her dog. At first I whine a little, I don’t want to be left again, she may not come back like my dad never did! But she does, I am glad for that. I have picked up a lot just watching her dog. It is nice to have a buddy.

“I get to go on leashed walks and would love to keep doing this in my new home. We don’t walk far but that’s only because I didn’t get to walk much with my dad. With time perhaps me and my new person could walk further? That would be fun! No one knows how I do with stairs because there are none here and there weren’t any at my dad’s house.

“Someone who understands dog behavior and is patient and loving would be a good match for me. My caretaker took me in because she believed I deserved another chance at love and a home. I appreciate that and hope we can find that for me soon!”
