Samba
Gentle and willing to trust
For months, Samba survived on her own at a campground. She was a “stray” so no one knows her exact age but the shelter has estimated her to be about 9 years old. She is a 73-pound shepherd mix.
Samba lived off scraps of outside cat food, never letting anyone close enough to help. One day, a trap was set, and Samba walked inside.
When she arrived at the shelter, she was terrified-but gentle.
Even in her fear, she allowed handling and vaccines without a fight. She spent her early days hiding from the world, curling up as people passed by, trying to disappear. But that has changed. Now, Samba comes to the front of her kennel. She watches. She’s learning. She’s realizing that people can be kind.
Samba is ready for her chance at a life where she feels safe, loved, and protected.
Samba will need a patient, compassionate human-someone willing to go slow, keep her leashed (yes, probably two at first), and let trust grow at her pace. A securely fenced yard would be a dream for her as she learns the world isn’t so scary anymore. One will need to be very cautious until she is bonded to you to prevent her from going back to what she has known over the last few months.
Shelter staff state she has tested really well with other dogs.
Samba is posted for the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, located at 18841 Kelleher Rd in Burlington, WA . The shelter is open M-F from 11-5, Sat-Sun from 11-4. Here is where you can apply to adopt Samba: skagithumane.org/dogs/pp60199773/Samba
