Gullu came to us in September of  2023 and quickly settled into our home. As an ODH final refuge dog, Gullu now has access to great medical care and his treatment plan has helped alleviate his severe arthritis, and ensure his various chem levels (calcium, liver enzymes, etc.) and heart murmur are at a healthy baseline. The inflamed skin around his nose has been the trickiest to determine and after antibiotics, a couple of different ointments, and a biopsy at the dermatologist, he was diagnosed with discoid lupus.

I don’t know much about his previous life, but it’s been wonderful to see the improvement he displays daily by demonstrating his quirky and sweet character more and more. One of his greatest improvements is that there is less rigidity to his walk and movement. A testament to the monthly Librela shots ODH funds for his arthritis and his now access to more frequent exercise. Gullu loves to explore slowly, smelling as many things as he can, and likes to people and animal-watch. He enjoys all types of treats and will bark when you don’t get him his treats fast enough. To be fair, he barks anytime he wants attention! He loves to lounge and will follow people around to rest beside them.

Gullu came into our lives three months after losing our 13-year-old golden retriever to cancer. My husband and I were shattered but decided this was the best time to foster a senior dog. Senior dogs are such a gift, and that is exactly what Gullu has been for us. The best gift. He has reminded us time and time again of the love and joy that stems between dogs and their humans. He embodies so much of what we adored about our golden. We are grateful to Gullu and the healing he has fostered in our home. Thank you to ODH for making this possible, all that they have done, and all that they will continue to do for countless senior dogs.
