Adorable Hazelnut (also known to her friends as Hazel) was found as a stray and arrived at the shelter in horrendous condition. Hazelnut had suffered long-term neglect and had various health issues that needed to be addressed right away. She was underweight and her dirty fur was matted and smelled like urine. Her mouth was swollen, painful and filled with broken and infected teeth. This darling girl needed immediate help and we were overjoyed when we found  Hazelnut the most wonderful and caring family of her own.

After Hazelnut settled into her permanent home, she was seen by a vet and scheduled for the dental she desperately needed. During the surgery, they removed 19 rotten teeth and after a few days, it was clear that Hazelnut was feeling so much better! The vet also found she had arthritis which affected her front legs and caused significant nerve pain in her shoulders and neck. She would have episodes of pain that were so severe that they looked like she was having a seizure. Hazelnut was prescribed acupuncture and medications that eased her pain and we are happy to report she is now symptom-free and finally comfortable. With the proper vet and daily care, senior lady has miraculously transformed into a beautiful girl. Her coat is now full and glossy and her foster mom loves dressing up for any occasion. The light has returned to her eyes and her spunky personality shines bright. Her foster family can hardly believe she is the same dog!

Hazelnut loves to be carried everywhere, and her family is happy to cater to her every request. They love to spoil her with a trip to the local coffee shop drive-through for a delicious puppachino, which she devours in record time. Her foster mom tells us she is a “love bug, and prolific lap sitter” who loves joining the family on weekend RV road trip adventures. Hazelnut is absolutely adored by her forever foster home and we are so grateful that she will always have so much love and comfort (and frequent puppachinos) for the rest of her life.
