Joey
Loves walks and play!
“Hello! My name is Joey. I am a 10.5 year old chihuahua mix who weighs about 25 pounds.I was adopted by my person as a 6-month-old puppy, and we have grown old together. While I am now a senior, I’m considered a young senior. I need more activity than my human can give me. I can cause her to trip over me, and that is not safe. For that reason, we must part ways. I need to find a home with someone who is more my speed!
“In the past, I have lived with other dogs. I do well with almost all dogs. I live with a cat now, and we cuddle sometimes. It could be nice to have a companion to hang out with at home when the humans have to leave. At night, I hope I can continue sleeping with my new human(s) in the bed. If that is not allowed, it would be nice if the dog or cat in the house wanted to share a bed.
“I enjoy young humans! Kids who are gentle, respectful, and do not startle me with loud noises can be fun to play with. I get excited when I see kids, so it is best that children are not too small, as they can be bowled over in my excitement. I do not appreciate being picked up by surprise. That applies to humans of any age!
“My hope is to find someone who can take me for daily walks and spend time playing with me. If you have a fenced yard I can get out into, that would be awesome! My human has not been able to walk me much lately. I do need some work on my leash skills, as I will pull. A harness that discourages pulling on leash could make our walks more enjoyable.
“Got stairs? They are not a problem for me at this time in my life. I can manage a few hours between potty breaks and stay home when the human must leave. Please keep in mind the life I have lived, with someone who has not gone off to work each day for long hours. It would be a big change for me to be adopted by someone who is gone for full work days. My human will tell you I rarely ever bark. Don’t I sound like a good boy?
“My adopter should be able to afford caring for me. It is so important to receive regular veterinary care and good-quality dog food. I could use a dental in the near future. Dental care can help a dog not only much better (think of how you’d feel if you never cleaned your teeth!), it can help prolong their life.
“I do my very best to behave. I want to make my human happy. In return, I will hope for a lifetime commitment from my adopter. While my human is sad to part with me, she knows she must do what is safe and best for both of us. She is hoping to find a GREAT home for me very soon.”
