Karrouche
Safe and loved
After just two weeks in her forever home Karrouche, (pronounced “Care-O-Shay”) is ready to enjoy this chapter of her life as an ODH Final Refuge dog.
This little 14-year-old poodle/cocker mix has spent street and shelter time, but her new family has convinced her that those days are over, and now it’s safety, comfort and love for the rest of her journey here.
Even though Karrouche can’t see in one eye she manages to get around just fine. Her skin is clearing up, the ear infections are almost gone, and she’s starting to gain a bit of weight. (She only weighs 7.9 lbs and should weigh about 10.) Fortunately this little sweetie will eat anything that isn’t nailed down so her road to a healthy weight will be a pleasant one for her … especially if a Starbucks treat is included on occasion.
So far we’ve learned that Karrouche likes riding in the truck, barking with the other dogs (not encouraged), snuggling under a blanket on the big bed, and being held by her people. And, of course, food.
Karrouche is a wonderful example of the hope that is generated in ODH dogs. The past will become only a dim memory replaced by the love and security of being valued in a forever homes. We love her and are happy to have her as part of our family.
Update:
After two wonderful years with a family who loved her, our little warrior needed to move on to her next expression of spirit.
Dementia and total blindness was just too much for our sweet girl. She was brave, determined, and approached every day with hope and love for her home and family, but we couldn’t ask her to continue in this life when confusion and disorientation overshadowed everything else. When she even ignored the slipper that had become her special toy we knew it was time to let her go.
Thank you Karrouche for staying as long as you could and for loving us as much we we loved you. We can’t see you now, but we feel your now healthy presence every moment of every day.
