Kartoshka

Kartoshka was rescued as a puppy living in Turkey. She was found after being thrown into a dumpster. Her breeder said she was the runt…hence the dump. She was a tiny girl, so she was given her name, which means “little potato” in Russian. Kartoshka is guessed to be a shepherd mixed-breed dog. She is about years old, and she weighs 44 pounds.

Kartoshka lives with two other dogs; however, she can get jealous of one of those dogs in particular. Her people believe she may be fine with a large male dog. She can be reactive to dogs who are smaller than she is. If she could choose, she would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Kartoshka has never lived with cats or children. Her humans believe it would be best for her not to live with cats. Kids age 10 and over could be fine. She has met kids that age and older on walks and appreciated their attention.

During the day, Kartoshka can manage between 4 and 6 hours before she needs a potty break. She has stayed in her home without issue when the humans leave the house. Of course, she should be given time to settle in and acclimate to a new home. Kartoshka will hang out on her dog bed or on the furniture near her people when they are home.

Being a vocal girl, Kartoshka makes cute little sounds when she wants something or needs to go outside to do her business. Kartoshka takes her job of alerting her people to visitors seriously. She barks! Her people believe she’d thrive in a home with land, a large fenced yard where she could run and where there would be less foot traffic for her to bark at. We are told, “a wide open spot to run is her happy place”.

On walks, Kartoshka will react to dogs she sees. One must be able to manage her size and strength because of this. When there are no dogs in sight, her leash manners are good. If she finds a home with land, there will be no need for daily walks. Kartoshka will be able to get out and enjoy herself. She loves to hang out in the yard and watch everything going on. Kartoshka can manage stairs fine at this time.

Kartoshka has seen a lot more of the world than many people! For the most part, she has done well adapting to moves in the past, and even been boarded for long periods of time, but she has always gone back to the people who rescued her. Kartoshka’s humans are in a tough spot, and now she needs to start the next chapter of her life with new people. She needs an adoptive home very soon. This beautiful girl is described as being an alert, attentive, very loving dog who bonds strongly to people.
