Koko was 12 years old when she was surrendered to a local shelter. She had bladder stones, bad teeth and heart murmur.  As soon as she came into her Final Refuge home, ODH began vet visits to help her into the best health possible.

Koko is a feisty little Chihuahua,  who bosses the resident greyhounds and cats in her new home.  She is full of energy now and she loves to walk with her pack when it’s nice weather.

Watching Koko learn to trust again and grow into being a snuggler (on her terms) has been a joy for her new family.   Wonderfully, she is also very sweet to the vets who adore her.

Koko loves to chase the female greyhound she lives with all through the house.  She also loves her soft toys which she plays fetch with (when the greyhound doesn’t steal them first)!   Being outside is fun for her and sometimes she just supervises from the view of her sling bag.

The best thing for Koko is that she is now much healthier from all the ODH vet care and she has learned to trust from all the love she receives in her forever home.  Her new family loves  seeing her seek out a sunny spot to relax and clearly enjoy every day in her new home.   As with so many ODH dogs, Koko has shown amazing resilience and has left her past behind and embraced her new life.

Update:  When Koko’s health began to fade, her loving family had to say goodbye.  She had a wonderful last chapter and will be greatly missed.

From Koko’s Final Refuge mom:  “Today heaven got a special Angel. Koko went to get her wings. Thank you Old Dog Haven for choosing her for our family.  After having a tough year, this has to be the hardest time. Thank you Koko for keeping me going, but l’m going to miss you so much .  l knew today that you let me know you were tired and ready to fly free. Angels have wings you earned yours!
