We welcome sweet Lady Marmalade to the Old Dog Haven family!

Old Dog Haven shared a plea to find a permanent home for a golden- cocker girl who desperately needed her very own loving family. Lady’s owner had turned her into the shelter after she started having accidents due to separation anxiety. Because of these frequent accidents, she was being left alone in a crate most of the day and all night. The shelter also reported Lady’s health had been neglected for quite a while. Her long beautiful coat was now matted all over her body and she had to be shaved to the skin. In addition, she had a mild heart murmur and she needed a dental.

We were thrilled when a very experienced foster family stepped up to provide Lady Marmalade with a safe and stable home and her foster mom gives us an update on her progress.

“We didn’t know what to expect when Lady first arrived, but we knew she had not been receiving the attention or care she deserved. Many of the dogs we have fostered over the years take a while to settle in and show their real personalities – that was not the case with Lady.  From the minute she came home she was a bundle of joy and excitement!  She is always affectionate and friendly and this lovely girl’s tail never stops wagging.

“She instantly bonded with our ten-year-old son and she has gone from sleeping in a crate to cuddling with him in bed every night. They have a very strong connection and I often find her sitting next to him with her head on his lap which always makes me smile. Lady loves to spend the afternoon napping on the couch but once she hits the outdoors, she is in full adventure mode. Those ears go up and she is off chasing rabbits, birds and squirrels at top speed (don’t worry- she never catches anything!)  She loves to explore and run and then rolls in the grass with a huge smile on her face.  Her energy is infectious and she always reminds me to enjoy every moment.  She is a little ray of sunshine and we feel so lucky to have her as a member of our family.”

Lady is now receiving vet care, a nutritious diet and skin supplements to help improve her skin condition and her beautiful coat is slowly starting to grow back. She has been receiving antibiotics and weekly medicated baths to clear up her ongoing skin issues and looks so much better after just a few short weeks. We are happy to hear she is no longer having any accidents and exhibits no signs of separation anxiety at all. She goes in for her dental next week and because of your support, Lady will always have vet care and the loving home all dogs deserve!
