Adorable Lenny is now safe, healthy, and very loved in his Old Dog Haven permanent foster home, but just a few months ago, his life looked very different. Lenny was found as a stray and turned into a busy shelter in sad shape, showing signs of long-term neglect. He had skin and ear infections and was missing a lot of hair on his body. He was underweight and a bit wobbly when he walked, possibly from arthritis pain or disc issues in his lower back.

Many of the dogs we take into Old Dog Haven have spent years without proper vet care, and we are always happy to see them finally receive the attention they deserve. Your donations made it possible for Lenny to receive everything he needed to regain his health. His recovery took months of daily care that included antibiotics, special ear medication, and frequent medicated baths. He had rechecks with his vet every two weeks to make sure his condition was improving. Just last week he was finally given a clean bill of health and won’t have to be seen again until his 6-month checkup!  He will remain on medication to help his mobility issues and he is now able to run and jump with ease. His fur is growing back shiny and beautiful, and he’s gained the weight he needed.

His foster mom feels honored to be able to help Lenny recover from his past life of neglect and shares an update on his progress.

“The moment we saw Lenny’s shelter photo, we knew he belonged with us. When he first arrived, he was very quiet and kept mostly to himself.  He was nervous and had frequent accidents indoors, which made us suspect he had spent much of his life outside. During that first month, he slept a lot and seemed grateful to be curled up on a cozy couch in a safe home. For weeks, he hardly made a sound, but slowly, as he began to feel secure, Lenny’s personality started to come out. His confidence grew, and we found that what makes him happy is toys! He loves balls, chewy bones, and squeaky toys, and often runs around with one in his mouth like a puppy.  His tail wags almost constantly, and he’s learned to give the sweetest little bark when he needs to go outside to go potty or needs help hopping onto the couch.

“What touches us the most is how gentle and loving he is. Lenny has made friends with everyone in our pack and can often be found sharing a dog bed with just about any dog, but his favorite companion is Yams. Every night, Lenny and Yams curl up together on the couch, tucked under their favorite blankets. They love going on long walks around the property with the pack and then they both come inside to burrow under the covers and power nap.

“Lenny brings so much joy and love into our lives. We are so thankful to Old Dog Haven and its generous donors that he was given a second chance to be part of a family that loves him. We are determined to give him the care, comfort and joy he needs to enjoy the best chapter of his life!”

Thank you to all of our supporters who continue to create new beginnings for senior dogs like Lenny. We are forever grateful for all you do for old dogs!
