Fourteen year old Petunia is from a familiar situation: her person passed, family couldn’t keep her, she had to stay in a small pen before coming to Old Dog Haven.  Her vet records showed a heart murmur but generally healthy.  At her vet intake exam (covered by Old Dog Haven), everything needed was done: labs, xrays showed heart enlargement, fecal, biopsy, heartworm test, dewormer & more.  Her exam discovered a multitude of issues including an ear infection, a loose molar, luxating patella, low grade heart murmur and a mild collapsing trachea.  We will set about fixing what we can and making her as comfy as possible.  She’ll have a dental if an Echo cardiogram shows her heart is OK for anesthesia, etc.  Petunia is 8.5 lbs and needs to lose a half pound so she’ll have weekly weigh-ins to monitor progress.

Now the fun part!  Petunia loves to give kisses and did so from the moment I first held her.  She is funny!  Sometimes I think she does things just to make me laugh.  She’ll rub her whole body on a blanket and when she stands up her hair sticks up in all directions with static electricity.  She has a little pig shaped nose that of course is pink.  When we take walks she runs to try and keep up with our other ODH dog that is 85 lbs.  They get along great and occasionally now even sleep together.  Little dogs tend to have little bladders but not her.  I still can get an uninterrupted sleep for 8 hours!

Petunia has been with us for 5 weeks but she’s taken the whole move in stride.  We’re hopeful she’ll be with us for years but will enjoy her daily for however long we have.
