Lila
Intelligent and engaging
This pretty girl’s name is Lila. She is only 8 years old, a young senior who weighs 40 pounds. Lila’s DNA results came back with 7 different breeds! She is a true Heinz 57 mixed-breed dog.
Lila was adopted from a shelter in 2019. Lila has enjoyed being the only dog in her home. This is not to say she could not live with another dog, as she does pretty well when introduced to dogs smaller than her. She can be playful with those dogs, and perhaps with time and proper integration, Lila could enjoy the companionship of a canine friend. Lila is reserved when meeting large dogs. She was recently attacked by a dog that was loose. She has healed from that, but it could be that this caused her to be less trusting of unknown dogs (who could blame her?). Lila has lived with a cat, and when she meets one on her walk, she will attempt to play.
While on walks, Lila loves meeting new people. She is beloved by neighbors, giving everyone lots of tail wags and making soft, cute sounds to get their attention. Lila has done fine with meeting children, but she is shy with young children, no doubt sizing up which ones know how to be gentle to a dog!
Since her adoption, Lila has lived with a retired couple. She has not been left alone for longer than 6 hours. During that time, she has managed without a potty break. Her ideal home would be another home where people are around more often than not. A work-from-home situation or someone who works part-time could work for Lila? Lila is not a needy girl; she has not displayed anxiety about being left alone. As we regularly point out, time and patience should be shown to a dog with any move. After all, if we had to leave our home and known family without understanding why, wouldn’t we struggle? It seems as though many dogs do better adapting to life-changing change than we humans do!
Lila has had excellent veterinary care and has been well provided for. Lila needs an adopter who will continue giving the care she has received. Lila has allergies, which are so common in dogs. Cytopoint injections and a diet without chicken have given her relief from her allergies. One of Lila’s ears was damaged when she was a youngster. That has caused regular ear infections if her ears are not cleaned regularly. Lila takes medication for urine spotting. We have found that using this medication can almost completely stop the spotting.
During the day, Lila hangs out on the loveseat or in front of a window so that she can watch what’s going on outside. Lila will bark at wildlife, except squirrels, as she sees so many each day, they’ve become boring! If there is a ruckus outside, say, loud voices or yelling, Lila will find her people to let them know something is amiss. Good girl, Lila.
Lila is excellent on leash, and she thoroughly enjoys her daily walks. Lila has no issue taking stairs. Keeping Lila moving as she ages and supporting her joint health is going to benefit her. You could have a terrific walking buddy for years to come!
Everything we were told about Lila makes us think this is a truly wonderful dog. She communicates with you to let you know her needs; she is intelligent. Once she gets into a routine, she follows it. Lila is playful; she loves to play with her stuffed toys, her lambie being her favorite. Lila is a devoted companion. She sleeps with her humans in their bed at night. Lila is described as being “sweet, gentle, and loving”. This really nice girl is so deserving of a home she can remain for the rest of her days.
