Lizzie

“Hi!  My name is Lizzie, and I am looking for a true forever home. I am a 69-pound pit bull.

I was recently adopted by a very kind person who wanted to help me when I was about to lose my home and go back to the shelter I came from 7 years ago. My dad was dying, and no one in his family could keep me. Everyone was so excited when they thought I’d found a home. I was too! Unfortunately, not long after I came to what I’d hoped was my new home, it was realized that I was too big and strong for my adopter. Sad to say, this happens. We bigger dogs just have a harder time finding homes because of our size.

I have not lived with another dog in a very long time. No one is sure how I would do sharing my home with another dog, so it is best to say I need to be an only dog.  I definitely should not go to a home with small dogs or small animals. I chase cats. I absolutely need a NO CAT HOME. Kids are great. I appreciate children who are old enough to know how to treat a dog with kindness. Sometimes the younger ones don’t because they don’t know better.

If you have to leave the house, I can stay alone and hold my potty for a few hours. Before I came here, I was accustomed to having my person around because he had been sick, and I have stayed close to comfort him. Since I have been here, I have been such a good girl when I have been left alone. This nice person has been so impressed by me!

I was lucky to be able to bring along my box of stuffed toys and blanket that I like to suck on. This has helped me with my move, and I know these nice people will let me take them with me when I find a new home. I have been sleeping with the human here in the bed at night-it’s super cozy! However, if you don’t allow that, I have a big bed my dad sent with me that I can sleep on.

When the weather is cool, I like hanging out on the couch and snuggling under blankets.

Beach trips or rides in the car around town are great fun. I have made lots of friends at the coffee stands and drive-thrus. Meeting new people is great; everyone is so nice. I love going for walks and am so happy I’ve been able to do that with this human. However, I can pull when I am on a leash, which is why I need to find a new home (again). Please be sure you can manage that. Maybe a different harness could help, or some work on my leash skills? I really don’t want to lose another home over this!

A place with too many stairs can be hard on me. I have pain in my hips called “dysplasia”. My people have given me medicine from the vet that helps: gabapentin and carprofen. I need this to keep from feeling pain. I am not much of a barky dog; people seem to appreciate that about me.

I am such a good girl. I am loving and very gentle. I am very grateful to this nice person who brought me to their home. I was kept out of the shelter, and they will keep me until a home with someone who can manage my size and strength. But the sooner I can find a committed, appropriate home, the better.”
