Nugget is a lovely, 12.5-year-old black lab mix who weighs 55 pounds. Before she was adopted out as a puppy, she broke her leg badly and had to have it amputated. She has lived much longer with only 3 legs than she did with 4, so it has never slowed her down.

Nugget is in need of a home without other pets or children. She is ready to complete an adult-only home. Of course, Nugget would be happiest if her new humans were home more often than not-what dog wouldn’t? But if that is not possible, Nugget will chill out on the couch and wait for their return home. Just please give her time to settle in. She is losing her home of over 12 years, and that is going to be an adjustment, as it is for anyone.

During the day, Nugget can manage a few hours between potty breaks. At night, she will sleep in her kennel with the door open or on the couch. Nugget will bark to alert you when someone has arrived at your home. She is a very smart girl, learning the names of toys and bringing them to you when you ask for them!

We are told that Nugget can manage stairs, though we would hope she can find a home without too many for her to climb. Currently, she does not take anything for joint support. We would recommend a joint supplement for a girl her age. Additionally, she should have a home with someone able to afford her veterinary care and good-quality dog food.

Nugget has always been an active girl. One should plan on at least a walk a day when adopting her. However, she does react to other dogs when she sees them. For this reason, her walker must be able to handle her size and strength. Her owner tells us that Nugget does not act her age!

Described as a “sweet, cuddly girl”. Nugget is ready to hang out on the couch with you or tag along with you on adventures. Because she and the other dog in the home do not get along, the dogs need to be kept separated. This means a lot less time with her family. They know this is not fair to Nugget, so they hope they can find her the home she deserves and needs.
