Meet Luke! His shelter ID number is A748125.

Luke is an 8-year-old, 13-pound dachshund mix. neutered male Dachshund mix.

Luke is an outgoing, happy, and talkative boy who is excited to meet anyone and everyone! He needs no time at all to get to know a person before climbing into their lap for some well-deserved attention. He loves to be involved in whatever the humans are doing, even if it’s just walking around cleaning up toys.

Luke is energetic enough to enjoy longer walks or mild hikes, but happy enough to snuggle and lay around all day if that’s the plan. He is a water dog at heart, and heads straight for the pool and sprinklers in the yard on hot days. Luke’s favorite summer spot is a shallow pool with a human scooping cool water over his head and back with breaks for gentle ear rubs.

Luke has been to playgroup with other small dogs and seems to like their company, although shy dogs may find him a bit too forward. He came with his brother Duke and while they are doing okay kenneling separately, they would probably enjoy being reunited in a home. Luke’s history with cats and young children is unknown.

Medical statement from the shelter: Luke came with mild fur loss around his thighs; the suspicion is that the reason is allergic flea dermatitis, as he did have fleas at intake. He has since been treated with a preventative. Luke is significantly overweight, and his benefit from weight loss assistance to improve his quality of life and longevity. At intake, Luke had a bilateral ear infection (yeast and cocci/bacteria). His ears were cleaned and treated with a long-acting medication. It is recommended that adopters follow up with their veterinarian, as there is likely an underlying allergy component.
