We do not know much about Maggie‘s past except that she was found wandering the streets and was brought to a shelter.  She was in very bad shape. Her skin was inflamed, her eyes were gunk-covered and she had numerous bald spots. Maggie came to her Old Dog Haven Final Refuge home very smelly, dirty, hungry and scared. The first night she was given a bath so she could have a good night sleep being clean. She thanked us by talking and then… silence for the next few weeks. But she’s now become more comfortable and she talks all the time! She is her ODH mom’s shadow.

Maggie has very dry eyes and has seen the ophthalmologist several times to get her “dry eye” condition under control. We’re still not certain how much she can see. She has very high blood pressure and her back legs will give out at times, but this too is being monitored and managed with medications. She’s also had an abdominal ultrasound to look for bladder stones and to confirm that she’d been spayed in the past.

We’re very grateful to ODH for all they do for these precious old pups. With the proper diet, medications, and love Maggie is starting to trust humans again. She is a blessing to her new home and her ODH mom calls her “my little angel”.

Update:  After a wonderful time in her Final Refuge home, dear Maggie’s health failed and we had to say goodbye.  It was time, but very still very hard to have her leave.  She brightened her home and lifted the hearts of all who knew her.
