Minerva was very thin when she was found.  She was chipped but the shelter couldn’t locate her owner but determined she was 8 years old.  Due to all her medical issues (itchy scarred skin, rectal and mammary tumors) she went to a shelter foster home, got surgery, had months of antibiotics, special medicated baths, special food and gained back the weight she needed.  The tumors were found to be two different cancers so they reached out to ODH.  She and her foster mom bonded immediately.  She’ll require lots of observation for cancer returning, medicated baths continue because infection is still there, and possible surgery in her future.

Her foster mother said, “If you’ve watched Turner & Hooch you’ve seen slobber swing in all directions on a big lipped dog, that’s Minerva.  Once you accept that, you see the sweetest, well mannered, trained dog.  She knows all the basics: sit, down, shake, other paw, come (although she ignores you when she wants), easy to direct on a leash but pulls you forward like a bulldozer (slow and steady).  She quickly learned the house, where to potty, where to eat and sleep.  Minerva brings you her favorite ball (previous foster sent this with her) and if you don’t toss it for her she’ll do it herself…WATCH OUT!  Nearly a 100 lb puppy.  Hoping to have a long time with her and hope her cancer doesn’t return.”
