Missy
Wonderful Golden Girl!
Golden girl alert! Missy is a lovely, 11 year old golden retriever who weighs 75 pounds. Missy is looking for a home where she is appreciated for the WONDERFUL dog she is. Adopted out by a breeder because she was unable to breed puppies (a blessing!), she was adopted to someone who had multiple small dogs who harassed her. That person adopted her out to her current family who she has lived with the longest. Her current people recognize that lifestyle changes mean less time for Missy and that is not fair to her. Missy is ready to move on to what we will hope and should be her final home.
We are told Missy has been good with other animals: dogs, cats, even birds and chickens. The thought is that Missy would be happiest in a home without multiple dogs so she can get the attention she craves and deserves. Missy has been a terrific family dog, she loves kids but she can be an opportunist when it comes to food in the hand of a child so she should be monitored in those cases. Of course Missy should only go to a home where the children have been taught kindness and respect. Young kids with their unpredictable moves can be difficult for a senior dog to be around, even the most tolerant of dogs.
Missy spends her days inside, hanging out in the living room waiting for her people to return home. She can manage quite awhile between potty breaks but as she continues to age, this should not be expected. NO dog wants to hold their potty for long hours. Missy barks to alert when someone is at the door as many dogs do.
This girl is great on walks and she enjoys them so much! The breeder trained her to walk well on leash and that has stuck with Missy all of this time. At least one walk a day going up to a couple of miles will make Missy very happy. It sounds as though Missy has some arthritis, hip mobility issues as she does not want to jump in/out of her person’s truck, even with a ramp. One should take this into consideration when adopting Missy. She can manage stairs at this time but it could become difficult as time goes on. Giving her a joint supplement and pain medication (if deemed needed by a vet) would be kindest for Missy. A commitment by her adopter to regular and as needed veterinary care and good quality dog food should be provided for Missy for the rest of her days.
Missy is accustomed to space to walk, run, and play fetch. A large fenced yard would be great for her! She is described as having playful and upbeat times but she has matured with age and knows when to chill too. Her people tell us she could make a great therapy dog. She loves to be brushed and petted, enjoying attention whenever anyone will give it to her. She wags her tail a lot and “smiles” all of the time. Missy is missing having people around, as she is alone more often than not these days. Her people tell us this makes her sad and sometimes anxious. Someone is going to be very fortunate to give this awesome dog a home.
