Sweet and gentle 'old man'
PERMANENT ODH FOSTER HOME NEEDED: Chocolate labrador, very old, 76#, intact male. This is a very very sweet and gentle old man in probably the last chapter of his life. He has both serious arthritis (?dysplasia) in his hips and neurologic deficits in both hind legs. Very wobbly behind but has improved a good deal on NSAIDs and joint supplement at the shelter – there is more we can do to improve the arthritis and keep him comfortable. The spine problems that make the neuro problems however will not really respond and will progress – we
just don’t know how fast. His bloodwork is quite good, so his organs are working well. We do not know if he’s lived with other dogs and he is NOT neutered; we also don’t know if he is housebroken. We do know he shouldn’t end his life in a shelter and would love to get him into “assisted living and hospice” care which has been ODH’s mission for many years. —
