Dear little Penelope at around 14 years old, found herself ‘stray’ at a shelter three times in a four month period. The last time she had a very damaged eye and was terribly matted. The wonderful shelter folks got her groomed and did a much-needed dental – and then contacted ODH to help with her eye problem and find a forever home for her. When Penelope arrived in her new home, she settled in very quickly and soon knew just when to go to the treat jar and where her food bowl was. After surgery to remove her damaged eye, she had x-rays which showed several areas of her spine that were causing her pain. With just the right pain medication, Penelope is blossoming into a wonderful, happy little poodle who loves to play bow with her pack mates (though they aren’t always up for the game). She greets her foster mom and dad with enthusiasm after work and is happiest curled up right next to one of them. She loves to sleep on the bed between mom and dad and her family reports that she is a real joy to have around. Also, she has developed quite a ‘crush’ on her little poodle brother Benny – and follows him all over the house hoping he will notice her. Penelope is another wonderful example of how very resilient and forgiving these old pups are – adjusting to a brand new home and the loss of an eye with ease. She shows us every day how glad she is to have found her ‘forever’ home! Her Final Refuge family is very glad to have her too and will make sure that she is well cared for and loved (and pampered) for the rest of her life.

From her ODH family: Our sweet Penelope was able to stay with us for 2 1/2 years before dementia took her mind and her bad spine deteriorated to the point we couldn’t be sure she was comfortable. Penelope was the best little poodle and a true Daddy’s girl. She never complained and when she got lost in the house she’d just wait for us to find her and bring her back to her comfy bed. After she lost the sight in her remaining eye she would follow her pack mates through the house though, no matter what, she managed to be in line at treat time.
Dear Penelope we will always hold you in our hearts and we were blessed to have known you and are so thankful to Old Dog Haven for making that possible.
