Penny
Active and silly
Penny ended up in the shelter after being found as a stray. She came to join her foster home in early December 2024.
Penny is estimated to be about 12 years old, and has almost no hearing and also has heart issues which we will address. On the very bright side, however, resilient little Penny is very active and silly. Plus, since she has no teeth, her tongue is always out which is absolutely adorablbe.
Penny had adjusted to her foster brother who has quite an attitude, and the quiet, resident dog and cat. Penny is also really smart and has learned the routine pf her new home very quickly. She loves to eat and follow her foster mom around the house. She’ll eat anything so she gets fed in her crate while the others eat in peace. House training is still a work in progress but hopefully warmer weather in a few months will help with that.
Her foster home is so thankful that Penny’s medical needs will be provided fully by Old Dog Haven and those who support her and grateful that Penny is now in her final home!
Update: Penny’s family posted: We let Penny go yesterday. She had developed CHF and we just couldn’t get it controlled. Penny came to me in December 2024. She was found running loose in Lk Stevens. From the very beginning she didn’t tolerate being held. An occasional quick pet was all she’d allow. She was deaf but could still see quite well. She looked like a doxy mixed with a Pappillion or Pom. She was a real character. At meal time, she would get excited and run around the house, side swiping the cat so he would swat at her and then she’d let out this little scream that sounded more like a laugh. Once the weather got warmer, I’d put the dogs outside while I fed the cat to help control some of the chaos. She would also run around if you dared to pick her up. It was like she had to run off the feeling of being touched. 4Paws came at 9 and she went peacefully. She was so tired by then. The saddest part is that this was the only time I got to hold her and love on her. She will be missed.
