Poe
Sweet senior boy who loves to give kisses
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Poe is a very old fellow who became an Old Dog Haven dog in May of 2025. We were told he had originally belonged to a homeless person. He landed in a shelter and from there he was adopted out to an elderly woman. His adopter lived only 2 years and once she passed, Poe was alone in his home with family coming to check in on him. We are sadly surprised at how often this happens. The family reached out to Old Dog Haven because they knew he was lonely and staying in the home indefinitely was not an option.
Poe is hard of hearing and his vision isn’t great but that certainly does not stop him from reminding his fosters when it is time for a meal or treat! He loves his walks, his little trot is so cute. Poe takes a daily supplement for his ailing liver and pain medication and glucosamine for arthritis. Poe has a funny howl-like bark (AR-ROOO!!) that makes his fosters smile. His vet says he has “old dog lungs,” which from time to time causes some coughing. Could it be he lived with a smoker at some point in his life?
This adorable boy with the scruffy beard has a BFF in Zara, another Old Dog Haven. Zara is blind and mostly deaf but she finds Poe and they play! They do a little dance with each other and play bow, it is a delight to see. Poe loves to give kisses to every human he meets. He is a sweet senior boy who is no longer lonely.
Because he is an Old Dog Haven dog, he will never lose another home. That is our promise to every senior dog we bring into our care. Poe will remain with his forever foster family and thanks to donations, his veterinary care will be taken care of for the rest of his days.
