Remmy
Sweet and inquisitive
“Am I the dog you have been looking for? My name is Remmy, and apparently, I need to find a new home. I am an 11-year-old, 60-pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix. I am a very friendly girl who loves meeting new people. If you give me attention, I will be your friend!
My people adopted me when I was a year old. Throughout the years, I have lived with 4 other dogs. Now I am the only dog, and I would probably be happiest remaining an only dog. I can get a little nervous when meeting new dogs. I could possibly live with another dog, but they would need to be easy-going in nature, more submissive in demeanor, and perhaps male. Slow and smart introductions are always the way to go. I have been known to resource guard with other dogs, so to avoid that, you can feed us in separate areas. It is nice not to worry about another dog trying to eat my food! My people had a cat that I wanted to chase at first. After some time and attentive monitoring, I was able to live peacefully with the cat. I love kids. Because not all kids can be gentle and respectful, especially the really young ones, it would be best that a child in my new home is at least 6 years old or older.
During the day I have been fine to stay alone inside my house, managing a few hours between potty breaks. I hang out in the living room, and I rarely ever bark. When I was first adopted so many years ago, I was anxious about being in a new home. I could certainly feel that same way again so please treat me with patience and kindness as I adapt to a new home and schedule. Leaving me alone for short periods of time at first could help.
I take a pill called Apoquel that helps to stop itchy skin. I will need someone who will continue to provide that for me. Care for my skin allergies, regular veterinary care and healthy dog food are important to keep me feeling and looking my best.
Walks are fun. I love to get out, stretch my legs, and explore. I confess that I will pull on leash from time to time. I have taken training classes where I learned to sit and heel. Guess I need some brushing up on my skills! Working with me on my leash skills and time for walks will help us bond.
Being rehomed is going to be a big change. My people had a human baby this year, and that has caused big changes here. I am no longer allowed on the furniture or in my people’s bed at night. I miss the closeness we used to have. There has not been time to keep up with managing my skin issues. Babies take a lot of time and attention! My people have noticed I am sad and want to find me a home where I can once again receive the attention I deserve. If you have the time and can provide me with the care and lifelong home I hope to find, I have the love to give!”
