“Well, Hi there! I’m Rosie. I am a 10-year-old Golden Retriever who weighs about 60 pounds.

My person got me as a puppy after I flunked out of guide dog school because I was too friendly. I got sidetracked when I was supposed to be doing my job! I had a really good life with my person until she was seriously injured. She is now unable to take care of me. Thankfully, her family took me in to keep me out of the shelter, but they cannot keep me forever. So here I am, hoping to find a home I will remain in for the rest of my life.

I have never lived with another dog, but I do just fine when I meet friendly dogs. I have been well socialized, so if you have a nice dog or two already, and you’re looking to add another to your home, perhaps I am the one who will complete your family. I like cats a lot. I live with 3 right now, and I like to watch them. I have never been mean to a kitty. Children have always been around me, and I have been good with all of them. Now that I am a senior, I would prefer to live with kids who are old enough to show gentle and kind behavior to me.

When the humans leave the house, I am fine to stay home alone. I do not get anxious about anything except when fireworks go off. Of course, I am staying with extended family I have known all of my life right now. Please keep in mind that moving to a new home will be a big life change. I’d hope to be shown understanding as I settle into a different routine in a new place. I can manage quite a few hours between potty breaks. I am not a barker; in fact, I rarely bark.

My person had me vetted regularly.  I receive eye drops in my eyes every day that must be continued. These eye drops are prescription eye drops that are VERY important for my eye health and comfort. Please be sure that you can afford my veterinary care if you adopt me. I may need grooming appointments, too, unless you are able to bathe me and keep my nails cut. I climb the stairs to go in and out of the house because I am a good girl who knows that I need to go outside to do my business. I do not show that I have achy joints, maybe I don’t feel them yet, but eventually I will! It comes with age for dogs just as it does with people. There are ways to help keep dogs’ joints healthy through supplements, weight management, and regular exercise.

Speaking of exercise, I do not demand much exercise. Short walks are fine. I behave myself on a leash. I love going into the yard to wander around and smell all of the smells. There are bunnies that come to the yard, and I enjoy watching them. I have never gone after one; I just like to watch them. I am a sweet girl, and I do not want to hurt or scare anything!

If you are looking for a new furry family member and I sound like a possible match, I am ready to meet you!”
