Sage
Smart, beautiful and very sweet
Sage, a 12-year-old Sheltie, found her way to Old Dog Haven last month thanks to a kind woman who rescued her from a bad situation. Sage’s rescuer took her to the vet, where bloodwork revealed early-stage renal disease and a skin infection. Treatment was started but because of Sage’s age and medical issues, finding an adopter would be difficult. Determined to find her a loving home, the rescuer contacted us, and we were thrilled when one of our wonderful foster homes stepped forward to welcome Sage into their Old Dog Haven family.
Sage has already had many changes to her life in the last few months, so it was no surprise she felt anxious when she arrived at her new home. Luckily, our Old Dog Haven foster families are incredibly patient and compassionate, always knowing just how to make new arrivals feel safe and loved. It wasn’t long before Sage settled in and slowly started to relax with the help of of the three resident cats and her new foster sister, Della.
During her vet intake exam, Sage was also found to have high blood pressure, possible spinal issues, and weakness in her hind legs. She is scheduled for a consultation with an internist and once she’s healthy enough, will undergo dental surgery. The vet prescribed a prescription diet to help manage her kidney disease and medications to treat her other health conditions. Sage is feeling much better and every day her personality starts to shine. We are told that Sage loves treats and enjoys being outside in any weather. Her foster mom loves watching Sage on short walks where her fluffy tail swishes behind her as she takes in all the sights and smells.
Described as “smart, beautiful, and sweet,” Sage has truly bonded with her foster dad, often lying at his feet while he works on the computer. She enjoys napping on the many soft beds around the house, but her greatest happiness comes from being with her new family and experiencing the love and comfort of her forever home.
We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated foster families and generous supporters who give unadoptable senior dogs like Sage a second chance to experience the care, comfort, and joy every old dog deserves.
Thank you for making a difference in Sage’s life and the lives of so many other senior dogs!
Update: Sadly, Sage’s health suddenly deteriorated and her family had to say goodbye. She was only able to stay for two months, and we take comfort in knowing that she had the very best care and so much love. She was such a dear, dear girl.
