Sarge was turned into the shelter as a stray and even though he had a microchip, no one ever came to claim him. Sarge was at least 13 years old and had various health issues so he had almost no chance of being adopted. He was 20 lbs overweight, had many huge lipomas all over his body, had thyroid issues, and would need surgery to remove a potentially cancerous growth hanging from his front leg. His coat was in rough shape and he had open wounds on his front and back leg that were causing him discomfort. The shelter was at capacity and Old Dog Haven was told that Sarge was at risk. This big, sweet boy was a shelter staff favorite and everyone was thrilled when Old Dog Haven found him a forever foster home that would take Sarge right away.

Sarge was fairly anxious the first few days which is expected for a dog that has had many recent changes. He settled in with his new senior dog pack and seemed to realize that he was in a safe home. He received a thorough vet exam and was given a plan to address his health needs. He was put on a diet and exercise plan to get him down to a healthy weight and given antibiotics to treat the open wounds on his legs. He will be scheduled for surgery this summer to remove a potentially cancerous mass hanging from his leg and a dental cleaning.

Things are looking up for Sarge. He now spends his day patrolling the yard and going for long walks with his favorite foster brother, Jasper and loves to sniff every bush and flower along the way. The afternoons are spent napping on his favorite dog bed until dinner time. His foster family is so grateful to Old Dog Haven that Sarge will never be homeless again. This friendly, happy guy now has everything he needs to live a carefree life in a forever home.
