Shrek is a lovely 8 year old boy, perhaps lab or hound mix, who transferred into Forget Me Not Animal Shelter after he was surrendered due to a home foreclosure situation. He doesn’t understand why his world has been turned upside down, or where his people have gone, but he is cheerful and bonding with the volunteers. He hasn’t shown any inclinations to play so far, and we can’t even find a dog treat that motivates him. His favorite parts of the day are when volunteers are around and he is out and about with them. Shrek is looking for a final home where he can be a devoted companion to his people, and where he will have very few hours alone. We think he has a high likelihood of experiencing separation anxiety after he bonds to his new family, so he would be most comfortable either with his people home most of the time, or with traveling around as your right-hand-dog. He is pretty good in the car, though does get tempted to sit in the driver’s lap, and at 65 pounds, we’d recommend he stay kenneled or safely barricaded in the back seat for safety. No car-sickness, though, and he looks forward to field trips!

Shrek had a full blood panel run and all systems look great! He had a dental cleaning in mid-October, and is otherwise in really good shape. He gets fish oil with his meals to help with a little dry skin, but has no other required medications or supplements. Shrek doesn’t seem to have any mobility issues, and can still handle stairs, but like most older dogs, attention must be given to the day when he will no longer be able to get up and down stairs, since he is a little too heavy to carry easily.

Shrek is good natured but can be selective about his dog friends; similar-sized females would probably be his favorite playmates, though he would be perfectly happy to be the only dog in the family. He is not good with cats or small dogs/small furries. He loves children – when the volunteers bring their kids, he is in heaven – but really, he loves all sorts of humans! He is house trained and has excellent manners.

Shrek comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.

Shrek is posted for the Forget-Me-Not shelter in Republic WA who offer a 30-day money-back trial adoption period. Can’t come to Republic? Don’t let that stop you! They have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners.

THIS IS NOT AN ODH DOG; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
