The dog who laughs

Simba is a 12-year-old Pomeranian/American Eskimo mix and a 20+ pound bundle of fluff, joy, and energy. Since he has settled into his new home with us, we’ve also noticed he is deaf, has arthritis and some food sensitivities, and can experience bouts of pancreatitis. He will receive all the care he needs as an Old Dog Haven foster dog and we’ve stabilized his pancreatitis with a prescription diet and medication, and we’re managing his arthritis pain to keep him comfortable.
Simba is a very sweet boy who has settled in wonderfully. He gets along well with his foster siblings—Della (a Chihuahua) and Scarlet (a Yorkshire Terrier), even though he’s bigger and more energetic than they are. He loves going for walks and if it were up to him, he’d probably walk forever! Even with his arthritis, he’s always ready to head out with a happy trot. His constant grin has earned him the nickname “Laughing Boy”, because he truly always looks like he’s smiling.
His deafness came as a surprise, but we’ve learned how to communicate through hand signals and gentle touches when he’s not facing us. He’s especially attached to his foster dad (his favorite human!), but foster mom is a close second especially at mealtime.
When he’s not on a walk, Simba enjoys wandering the backyard, on the scent of those elusive rabbits, attempting to playfully chase the resident cats, or taking cozy naps on the couch.
Simba is an absolute joy and a wonderful addition to our pack. He keeps us smiling every day, and we feel lucky to be his forever home.
