Scarlet is a 14-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who came to Old Dog Haven after she was surrendered to the shelter by her original owner. This sweet senior girl is a bit timid, which we believe is mostly due to her very limited vision. At her intake exam, we discovered she has severe dry eye, arthritis, and is in need of a dental.

Despite her challenges, Scarlet has settled in beautifully and is already showing her gentle, affectionate nature. She’s eager to make friends with her foster siblings. Old Dog Haven foster dog, Della, a Chihuahua, is still a little indifferent to her new roommate, but she does allow Scarlet to share her bed now and then. Foster brother, Simba, is a bit too energetic and intimidating for tiny Scarlet, but he’s quite taken with her. He enjoys following her around the house and yard, sniffing her, and even lets her sneak bites from his food bowl!

Due to her arthritis and very bowed legs, Scarlet isn’t a fan of long walks. Instead, she enjoys leisurely strolls down the street until she tires, at which point her foster mom scoops her up and carries her home. She loves following us around the house, always keeping a watchful eye, making sure we aren’t going somewhere or getting a snack without her! Scarlet is incredibly quiet and we’re not sure we’ve ever even heard her make a sound.

Since arriving, Scarlet has already seen an ophthalmologist for her dry eye and is now on medication to manage it. She’s also receiving treatment for her arthritis to keep her comfortable and will soon have her much-needed dental work.

Though she’s only been with us a little over a month, we are absolutely head over heels for Scarlet. She has been a wonderful addition to our pack, and we feel lucky to give her the love and comfort she deserves in her golden years.
