Quiet, sweet, 16 year-old Sir Buffington lost his home after his elderly owner had a bad fall and could no longer care for him. The shelter is no place for a dog his age with a bad heart so his caregiver contacted Old Dog Haven to take him directly and spare him a shelter intake.

His ODH family tell us that it took almost a month for this old gentleman to come out of his shell. When he arrived he was withdrawn and lethargic and could barely walk outside to do his business without stopping and panting heavily. But he now runs and turns circles and will follow his people anywhere: “Sir Buff is enjoying wandering around our fenced 2 ½ acres learning what it is to live on a piece of property with so many new smells! We are so crazy about this little adorable old man. He’s been good for his ODH brother Noodle who was pretty crabby when he arrived at our house.  Noodle is a different dog since Buff arrived and other than when they are sleeping they are always together.  Our other foster, Harvey, is blind, nearly deaf and is in early stages of dementia so he doesn’t really interact with the other dogs anymore but follows the other dogs and gets along with them well.”

Sir Buff has seen a canine cardiologist and now he’s on the proper medication his ODH family hopes that they’ll have a long time to spoil, love and enjoy this quiet little guy. (They tell us that the only sound he makes is to whine when he’s happy to see them–they wonder what his bark sounds like.)  “We are so thankful to all those of you who sponsor Old Dog Haven dogs in Final Refuge care, it is because of you that they receive the amazing medical care, proper food and love, lots and lots of love to ensure that the last chapter of their lives is the best it can be. We are very grateful!”

Update from Sir Buff’s Mom: We had to send Sir Buffington on to his next chapter over the Rainbow Bridge.  Sir Buff was with us for a little over a year and was 17 plus years old when he started being confused about his surroundings and became very unsteady on his feet so we knew it was his time to travel to his next life where hopefully he is running free and barking like crazy.  There is a huge hole in our hearts and our home without him but we know that the right decision was made for him.  Sir Buffington was one special little guy who will be missed forever.
