Meet Swan, a lovely little terrier mix looking for her final home. Swan was brought to a shelter as a stray and then transferred to Forget Me Not Shelter after no owner claimed her. The hope is that an adopter will be found to make Swan part of the family but Forget Me Not is also open to a permanent foster placement (under which Forget Me Not would continue to pay her medical expenses for life); the most important thing is that Swan’s next move be her last move, and that her final years be spent surrounded by love.

Swan is estimated to be about 12 years old. She is blind, diabetic and full of spunk. Her medical needs are:

Insulin, which she takes twice daily 15 minutes after her meal, costs about $60 every 3 months;
Denamarin (liver support medication) given midday, costs about $35-$40 a month;
prescription w/d Science Diet, a 17.6 lb bag of food is about $60 on Chewy and should last her about a month.
Forget Me Not has estimated it would cost approximately $120 a month (plus any toys, diabetic-friendly treats, and puppiccinos you’d like to provide) to care for Swan.

Swan bubbles over with love of life in spite of her special medical needs. She dances for attention, loves walks and exploring the yard. Her blindness doesn’t seem to hold her back. She follows her people or other dogs very easily, she learns new spaces quickly, and shows no fear of new places. Swan gets along with people of all ages, dogs of all sizes, cats, and has even been nose to nose with a friendly town deer!

Enough good things cannot be said about this special girl. If you choose to welcome her into your home you can expect to have a sweet dog who likes (and needs) to be groomed, likes to cuddle but is also up for small adventures in the yard, garden or trips to the store. She does beautifully in the car. She is house trained as well, as long as she is given frequent trips outside. She can make it through the night accident free. Of course once she moves to a new home, she’ll need time to adapt to her new “landscape”. We can tell you watching dogs like Swan adapt to their forever homes is both heartwarming and rewarding!

This is not an ODH dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
