Tank

12-year-old Tank is a big, lovable boy in need of an adoptive home. He is currently on the plump side, weighing about 82 pounds. Tank is a lab/pitbull mix who loves to give kisses. He has been an adored family member since he was rescued as a puppy. Now as a senior, he needs a new home because his person can no longer care for him.

Tank has lived with other dogs in the past. He enjoys the company of dogs his age who are not overly aggressive or dominant. Tank has been humpy with dogs at the dog park. This was only a few times after many, many trips there. Our thought is that it may be too much stimulation for him, easy to stay away from the dog park and instead enjoy walks and the car rides he enjoys.

Tank is a great friend to his cat buddies who like to cuddle up to him. He can share a home with cats who are dog savvy. Young children who are loud with quick, unpredictable movements startle him. Tank is happiest around older kids. While he’s very friendly, he prefers smaller groups of people who are not loud.

With a good diet and exercise program, Tank could lose some weight and move better. Stairs are hard for Tank. After discussing options to help with his arthritis, his person is going to get him started on joint supplements as well as medication to help with pain and inflammation. Tank’s adopter will need to continue this to keep him comfortable. But please don’t think Tank doesn’t need or want walks and exercise! Tank loves short walks, time in the water, and he can be very playful. Tank does pull on leash. His adopter will need to be able to manage his size and strength.

Tank has been very good about staying home alone as needed. In his ideal home, he would have a dog door out into a fenced yard to relieve himself when he wants to. He’s been solid with his housetraining, but we always say when a dog moves, grace should be given while a dog learns when and where to do his business. When his human is away, Tank spends his day inside his home, relaxing. He has a very easy-going personality. At night, he sleeps in his person’s bedroom on his own dog bed.

As it often happens with age, Tank has some lumps. He had a large lipoma (benign fatty growth) removed in 2023. Tank’s adopter should be willing and able to provide lifelong veterinary care for him as well as good-quality dog food.

Tank will thrive in a home where he can have more time with his people. A home without many stairs to climb will be kinder for him. His person will be very sad to part with him but physically, he has become too difficult for her to manage. No doubt Tank will miss his person as well but for him to live his “best life”, the belief is that he should find a home where his needs can be better met. Tank is a dear boy with a sensitive, tender soul. We hope to help him find the home he needs.
