Thor

Thor is a 10-year-old, 70-pound mixed-breed boy. He is the result of an Old English Sheepdog and a poodle (we would guess a standard poodle?) being intentionally bred together. Described as being “uniquely goofy and clumsy”, he is said to be an affectionate, playful dog who does not know how big he is.

Thor has lived with other dogs; currently, he lives with a small dog and a cat. Sometimes Thor can come off as “too much” when meeting other dogs. He wants to make friends! He is just big, and he loves to roughhouse. Thor can get excited when he sees a new cat, but he is never aggressive. This kind boy has been good with gentle children. We think Thor sounds like such a nice dog.

This fellow needs a home where he can receive more attention and more exercise. A home with a large fenced yard to run around in, but definitely time for daily walks, would make Thor a very happy dog. He can pull on a leash, so one must be able to manage his size and strength. There are humane options for assisting a walker with a dog who wants to pull. At this time, Thor can still take stairs. But please remember that as he ages, if he becomes unable to manage stairs, he won’t be easily carried.

Being left alone by his humans, even with the company of his dog and cat friend, is hard on Thor. His family says it helps if Thor is tired out from exercise and given a medication to calm him before they leave the house. This tells us he should not be adopted to a home with people who work full time away from home. It is healthy for a dog to learn they are OK to be left alone, as no one is home 24/7. Because he will be moving from his lifelong home, Thor should be shown the patience and compassion every dog deserves when they are rehomed.

Thor takes gabapentin; we assume this is for arthritis. His adopter should be able to continue to provide this for him, good-quality dog food, as well as regular veterinary care and grooming.

We are told that Thor alert-barks to let his people know someone or something is outside.

He hangs out in the house during the day, and at night he sleeps on his dog bed in his people’s bedroom. Thor can manage a few hours between potty breaks. This smart guy knows some tricks. We bet he could learn more! Thor sounds like a happy, fun dog who will thrive in a home with people who have more time for him.
