Pancha

This is Pancha, a spayed female eight-and-a-half-year-old Presa Canario/Cane Corso mix. She weighs 91 pounds. Pancha has been at the shelter for almost 3 months! Recently, she had a shelter break and had a sleepover with a shelter volunteer. The volunteer told us she is extremely gentle, house-trained, and behaved well in the house.

Pancha was microchipped as a beautiful senior Presa Canario; however, the shelter added Cane Corso to her when listing her for adoption, as the two breeds can be confused, and they believe she has some Cane Corso in her. Whatever breed she is, she navigates the world with a quiet, dignified presence and a heart ready for a soft place to land. This sweet girl is a little aloof at first and has a stubborn streak that only adds to her charm, but she’s happy to spend her days relaxing near her people and enjoying the comforts of home.

Pancha came to the shelter with an old injury that causes her to walk with an unusual gait, and she likely has arthritis. It is recommended that her adopter follow up with their veterinarian to discuss pain management, mobility support, and ways to keep her comfortable as she enjoys her golden years. This hasn’t stopped her from chasing cats when she sees them, so Pancha needs a home without cats or small animals. She may do best as an only dog in her new home.

The Presa Canario is a large, powerful guardian breed known for its loyalty, intelligence, and calm confidence. While every dog is an individual, shelter staff encourage potential adopters to research the breed to ensure they’re prepared for its size, temperament, and care needs. Understanding the unique needs of senior dogs is equally important, as Pancha will benefit from a home that can provide regular veterinary care, a comfortable bed, and a slower pace of life.

With her cropped ears, docked tail, and soulful expression, Pancha has a striking appearance, but it’s her gentle spirit that truly shines. She’s searching for a loving family who will appreciate her for exactly who she is and give her the cozy retirement she’s earned.
