Winston

Winston is an adorable boy who needs an adopter ASAP. He is estimated to be only about 9 years old, and he weighs 25 pounds. Any guesses on his breed mix? His current people believe he is a Yorkie mix. Winston sounds like a nice little guy who has had a bad run of luck, and now we need to help turn that luck around!

Winston was pulled from an out-of-state shelter by a “rescue” that is now nowhere to be found. This poor fellow is currently in his second home, in desperate need of a committed adopter. Winston needs someone who will provide him with the care he needs for his allergies, as well as help with the anxiety he understandably has after going through so many changes.

The belief is that Winston needs a home with another welcoming dog to keep him company when the humans must leave the home. We are told he has lived with other dogs. When he is left alone, he will bark and whine. Often, when a dog is anxious about being left home alone, another confident, friendly canine pal can help calm the anxiety of a dog who does not want to be alone. There are NO guarantees that it could work, but he sure deserves the chance to find out! It is unknown if Winston has ever lived with cats. Winston does well with respectful, kind children.

From what we have been told, it sounds as though Winston could get some help from a visit to an animal dermatologist. However, if that is not possible, a veterinarian could certainly help offer advice for relief for his itchy skin. Old Dog Haven has had good experiences helping dogs with skin allergies with regular medicated bathing, Cytopoint injections, and Apoquel. A veterinarian could also prescribe something for his anxiety, if that is necessary, with his next and hopefully last move. Winston will need regular grooming to keep him looking so cute.

Winston is great on leash; he really enjoys his walks. He can handle stairs without any issue. Winston will play with toys sometimes, but his favorite thing is to be around his people. It makes you wonder what his life was like long ago. Maybe he had a family who really loved him, and he wasn’t left alone much? It’s too bad dogs can’t talk…though perhaps it would make us too sad if they could?

Dogs are amazing. They can adapt over and over and endure so much. It is said that dogs live in the moment. However, so much change and uncertainty can become overwhelming for them. How can we fault them? How would WE adapt? We are hoping to help Winston find the very best adoptive home. His devotion and love, and witnessing his realization that he is finally secure and home, will be the reward.
