Meet Baby, an eight-year-old Rottie/Lab mix weighing 97 pounds.

Baby is a special senior girl with a big heart and an even bigger love for life. She landed in the shelter after being surrendered by someone experiencing homelessness who had cared for her for about six months. While much of her past remains a mystery, it is apparent that Baby is ready to leave uncertainty behind and finally enjoy the peaceful, loving retirement she deserves.

Baby has been introduced to other dogs during her time at the shelter, and she has been a very good girl, showing no dog reactivity. This could be from her experience living in an encampment with other dogs. It would be nice for Baby to find an adoptive home with a friendly, mellow dog who won’t mind her bumping into them as she learns to navigate her new home. Baby has not been introduced to cats at the shelter.

Baby is completely blind due to Nuclear Sclerosis, but don’t let that fool you-she gets around remarkably well and doesn’t let it slow her down. Once she learns her surroundings, she navigates with confidence and enjoys her daily routines just like any other dog.

Her recent senior bloodwork looked great overall, though it did show signs that she’s experienced some stress in her life. These days, she’s much more focused on the good things-like treats, walks, and affection. Baby is very treat motivated (just be mindful of your fingers, as her aim isn’t perfect!), and she absolutely lights up when it’s time for a stroll or some one-on-one attention.

Baby does have mild arthritis, but it’s not currently at a level that requires medication. A soft bed, gentle exercise, and lots of love will go a long way in keeping her comfortable.

Baby is friendly, outgoing, and ready to bond deeply with her person. She’s looking for a calm, stable home where she can feel safe and cherished in her golden years. If you have a soft spot for seniors and want to make a truly meaningful difference, Baby is waiting to meet you.

Baby is posted for the Yakima Humane Society located in Yakima, WA.
