Barley (Pom)
Energetic little fellow
Adorable Barley, a 12-year-old Pomeranian mix, ended up in a shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. When he arrived, he was very sick, overweight, missing one eye and the remaining eye had glaucoma. He had dental disease and there were some concerns about his diagnostic bloodwork showing possible liver problems. His luck changed when Old Dog Haven found him a wonderful foster home where he will now receive lifelong medical care and plenty of love with a family of his very own.
Currently overweight, his foster home is helping him shed the extra pounds through diet and lots of exercise and he will soon have a consultation with a veterinary ophthalmologist. His elevated eye pressure is being controlled with medicated eye drops and he is also scheduled for a dental cleaning later this spring.
Barley’s foster mom reports he is fitting in well with their resident dog, Rigatoni and their Old Dog Haven Forever foster dog, Pasta. Barley loves to give kisses, demands belly rubs, and enjoys up all the attention he can get. This energetic little dynamo never slows down and is a constant source of entertainment to everyone around him. He knows his basic commands, loves playing fetch with mini tennis balls and amuses himself by taking his toys and flipping them in the air. Always up for an adventure, Barley loves to go for hikes and long walks on the beach.
Old Dog Haven makes it possible for dogs like Barley to experience the happiness every old dog deserves. We thank all of our supporters who help make this possible.
Update: Sadly, little Barley went into respiratory distress and was immediately transferred to critical care. He was scheduled to see a cardiologist but passed before then. His foster family loved him with all their hearts and he had a very happy life with them to the very end.
