Biggs
So much love!

This very, very sweet senior fellow was found “stray” wearing a belly band and turned into a local shelter. Biggs was straining to urinate and a vet exam found a VERY large stone in his bladder and one in his urethra. Biggs needed surgical intervention, but before anything could be done, he needed to complete a 3-day stray hold.
The shelter found a foster to give him a home to complete his hold in -we must thank that kind foster for giving him a cozy place to wait! The shelter reached out to us to ask for our help. An urgent plea was put out to our established fosters as there was not time for a new foster applicant and one of our long-time forever foster homes put their hand up for him.
Biggs went home and not even an hour after being there, his forever foster knew he needed help right away. Poor Biggs kept trying to urinate, but not much was coming out except drips and some blood. The danger of blockage and a ruptured bladder was not something we wanted to risk! So off Biggs and his forever foster went to the E.R.
The surgeon told us that the stone was “GINORMOUS”; it occupied his ENTIRE BLADDER. The little stone in his urethra was small enough to flush back into the bladder, where it was removed. As one could imagine, Biggs’ bladder wall is quite inflamed, no doubt due to that stone rubbing on it for quite a while. It took some time to grow a stone that large! Biggs has a UTI and has probably had one for quite some time as he was not emptying his bladder.
Thanks to his foster home and the vet team, Biggs is finally comfortable and will remain on a prescription diet to prevent future issues. Despite his past challenges, this happy, playful senior dog has perfectly settled into his new home. He is trusting, loves meeting new people and enjoys daily walks with his small dog friends. Biggs is such a wonderful example of how much love senior dogs still have left to give and how much life they still have to enjoy!
