Ahoy! Welcome aboard the new chapter of Buoy the Bichon Boy. What a sweet pup this one is.

Before his retirement with his current Dog Guardians (in his ODH Final Refuge home), Buoy lived a very full and happy life with his family for over a decade. He has clearly been loved and well cared for over the years, as his heart speaks true to being a good dog and trying his best at all pup activities. As is with any life, Buoy encountered some valleys and circumstances changed for his previous pack. For a year, this little guy was given tons of love, care, and exceptional welfare from his temporary home at a local boarding kennel.

After a year of limbo, the transition for Buoy’s new home took effect. The community support of ODH around town stirred the hearts of his new Final Refuge home and after great deliberation, they decided to become a Final Refuge home for whatever four (or any number)-legged friend came their way. Soon after putting their names in the ODH hat, the family welcomed their new buddy and companion into their home.

The 3 Days, 3 Weeks, 3 Months rule (if you ever become an ODH foster, you’ll know), was right on point. There were some anxious nights, lots of training and learning new things, and one sassy cat who had to learn to share her territory for the first time in a while. All said, everyone is learning, growing and, most of all, grateful for one another.

Originally Bichons were Spanish boat dogs and easygoing companions for French nobility and Buoy has certainly stayed true to his Bichon Frise roots! He loves getting brushed, is gentle to all animals, enjoys crunching treats (best at apples and carrots), and going for car rides. No matter where he is, what he loves most is  sticking close to his buddies and catching smiles everywhere he goes.

What a summer it has been for adventures and Buoy has taken full advantage of the ideal Seattle weather! You may have even witnessed his debut at the ODH Festival earlier this summer at the pageant. This mini explorer has also been camping, paddle boarding, canoeing, supervised a gardening crew, gone on lots of walks, and soon, he’s headed to a baseball game when the Mariners host Bark at The Park later this month!

Speaking of adventures, this little guy and his pack are heading south to Portland this fall. A community of human and non-human animal friends in the ODH community await his arrival. Who wouldn’t?! Overall, excitement builds for yet another chapter of Buoy. All around, blessings and gratitude abound.
