Duke
Sweet, sweet old boy, now a treasured family member
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Duke’s owners reached out to Old Dog Haven’s placement team this November when they had to relocate their family overseas and couldn’t take him along. With shelters overflowing this time of year, a senior dog like Duke would have a tough time finding an adopter. Thankfully, Old Dog Haven was able to find him the perfect home with a loving family and another Old Dog Haven pit bull named Millie.
Duke’s new mom told us he arrived a bit unsure and nervous, but he settled in quickly. At his initial vet intake appointment, Duke was diagnosed with Giardia (an intestinal parasite), as well as age related issues affecting his spine and back legs. Old Dog Haven’s main priority is to give senior dogs the comfort and care they need to have the best quality of life. Thanks to your donations, every dog we take in receives extensive and lifelong vet care! Duke was given a prescription to treat the Giardia, and medications and supplements to help his arthritis pain and mobility issues.
His foster family reports that he has fit in perfectly and finds so much joy in being part of their family. He has already formed a very strong connection with his foster dad, and he loves to shower him with endless doggie kisses in exchange for much-appreciated back scratches. He happily explores his new backyard and looks forward to his daily walks, where he trots around the neighborhood, taking in all the sights. He then comes home and does what old dogs do best-nap! His only real dilemma is whether he should sleep on the couch or on one of his many soft, cozy dog beds…..Duke is a gentle, easy-going boy whose tail never stops wagging and we are so happy to know he will always be safe in a permanent home.
His foster mom tells us, “I love it when he comes over to me and puts that big head on my lap and looks at me with those beautiful, amber eyes. He is just a sweet old man and it didn’t take any time at all for us to completely fall in love with him. Who wouldn’t love that adorable face!”
We are beyond grateful that Duke has a family who adores him and will ensure he has a lifetime of care, comfort, and joy!
