Galinda
Delightful girl, now able to enjoy life and her new home!

14-year-old Galinda’s owner contacted us to ask if we could help their sweet, tiny girl. They had bought Galinda as a puppy and had never had her spayed. Galinda spent most of her time in a very tiny crate in “her own corner”. Galinda made her way to her forever foster family at the beginning of July 2026.
We were told Galinda had “many little cancerous cysts”. Those cysts turned out to be mammary tumors. Galinda had a GIANT mammary mass as well as multiple mammary tumors along her mammary chain. To be sure it was safe for Galinda to undergo the surgery she needed, she had lab work, X-rays, and an ultrasound with a radiologist. Her labs were good, X-rays were clear of masses in her chest, but the ultrasound showed that one of her ovaries was very large, the size of a golf ball (!!) and cystic. In addition to this, Galinda has a heart murmur, so she saw a cardiologist who started her on medication for her heart disease. Galinda was cleared for spay and mammary tumor removal surgery!
Galinda had her surgery almost exactly a month after joining her Old Dog Haven family. She needed over 30 staples to close her incision. She was a trooper; her fosters say she was the best patient they’d ever had. Two weeks post-surgery, the staples were removed, and one would have never guessed what she had been through. The histopathology came back from the tumors, and sadly one was malignant carcinoma. She will be monitored for more tumors in the future. Because she was spayed, she is now safe from deadly pyometra-an infection of the uterus.
Galinda is a delightful girl. She is a loving, happy dog who enjoys going for walks. Galinda joins her foster family on the couch at night to watch T.V. Shy at first, it took some time for her to become accustomed to having the freedom of being able to go wherever she wanted to in her new home. Now Galinda gets the zoomies and likes to play with her foster mom; it is very cute! When she needs to, she seeks quiet time out in a very large, soft crate that is always left open. Her fosters love her very much; they say she is one of the easiest dogs they have ever had.
