Juno
Quiet, gentle girl
A young photographer was leaving the parking lot of a wildlife refuge when an old, three-legged dog wandered out in front of her car.
When no one came forward to claim Juno, and Animal Control verified that she was now the property of the caring finder, Old Dog Haven was contacted and to find a permanent foster home for this gentle, senior girl.
From Juno’s foster mom: As soon as tripod Juno arrived at my house late last Saturday afternoon, I could only wonder how someone could leave this kindly old girl behind. Both my somewhat yappy, opinionated ODH poodle and my very timid ODH terrier immediately accepted quiet Juno as part of the pack. Even the cat joined in welcoming her while Juno gently wagged her tail. Sunday was a rest and recoup day for Juno and bright and early Monday morning found her at the vet clinic for her first intake exam. Juno was given a thorough examination, caught up on all her vaccinations, x-rayed for skeletal problems such as arthritis, and blood work and urine tests were run. Unfortunately, the tests results indicate Juno has some serious kidney issues to deal with and it is possible that at some point she might have ingested poison. She has already been started on a special prescription food for her condition and it will be carefully monitored over the coming months. All of this, the clinic visit, tests, and the prescription food was cheerfully provided by Old Dog Haven.
Meanwhile, Juno, estimated to be about 12 years old, is settling in well, carefully trying out each dog bed to pick her favorite. Her sunny disposition is amazing. One only has to speak her name and she jumps up and bounces over to you – somewhat wobbly on her three legs – with her tail wagging wildly. Even though she tires quickly, she is enthusiastic about going out for walks. She especially enjoys meeting new people and dogs. We are working on a couple very short walks a day, hopefully building up her exercise tolerance. Juno’s health issues will probably always be a concern. But thanks to Old Dog Haven, she will always have the best in veterinary care, and a family to love and care for this gentle old girl.
Update: Juno’s fosters had to say goodbye to this lovely old lady on 7/23/2025. She will be sorely missed.
