Lexi
Loving and hopeful
” A very loving girl who loves treats and toys” is how Lexi, a 12-year-old Chihuahua, was described to us. Lexi currently weighs 15 pounds, which appears to make her a little plump for her frame. Since she enjoys walks and is said to be good on leash, Lexi could benefit from regular exercise and ensuring that she is fed a healthy diet (with perhaps fewer treats!) that could help her shed a pound or two. It can be rewarding to help a dog reach their “ideal” weight!
Lexi has lived with 3 other small dogs. While she’s never been observed around new dogs, we would hope she could adapt to a home with another mature, small dog who will be welcoming but not overwhelming to her. Lexi has lived peacefully with a cat but she has never been observed around children. Our guess is that she could be OK with kids aged 12 and older who will be gentle and respectful of her.
Since she has always had the company of other animals, her owner cannot say how she would do if left completely alone. We have found that some dogs can adapt to a new home more smoothly when there is another dog in the home who is accepting of them. During the day, Lexi enjoys time outside in a securely fenced yard. At night she sleeps in her bed.
Lexi takes Meloxicam for arthritis. This can help with pain and inflammation. It will be in her best interest to continue treating her arthritis, monitoring her blood work, and providing regular veterinary care for her. She can manage stairs if she has to. Lexi barks. She is a chihuahua, and they are known for using their voice.
This pretty girl needs a home very soon. Lexi’s family has gone through some very dramatic changes, and the best thing for Lexi is to find a home with continued love and regular veterinary care where she can remain for the rest of her life.
