Lily
Loves walks
Lily is a 13.5-year-old “chiweenie”- a chihuahua/dachshund mix. She weighs 13 pounds.
Lily has been the cherished only pet to her lifetime owners since she was a puppy. Her owners live in an assisted living facility. Sadly, their health is declining, and they can no longer care for Lily. Lily needs to find a home very soon.
Lily has never lived with another dog. Extended family reports that the last time she was around another dog, about 5 years ago, she was fine. Because she has lived a sheltered life, the belief is that she would be happiest in a home without other dogs. Lily has never been exposed to cats. Given her age and the fact that she is shy, a home without children is best.
Since moving to assisted living with her owners 2 years ago, she has taken the elevator with her owner to go outside for walks and potty breaks. Before their move, they had a home with a securely fenced yard that Lily enjoyed. The hope is that she can find a new home where she can have that again, as she loves being outside and it makes potty breaks easier for her.
Lily LOVES going for walks! She gets out three times a day for a walk. Lily is accustomed to walking on a leash and is always ready to go!
Because she doesn’t have to climb stairs in her current home, no one is sure how well she can do them. Last January, Lily had surgery to remove bladder stones. She will need to continue with her prescription diet to prevent further occurrences of stones. It will be very important that one can afford regular veterinary care that will include checking for new bladder stones (via urinalysis, X-rays, etc).
During the day, Lily is accustomed to having people around. She is not much of a barker unless she is excited. One will need to ease Lily into an entirely new way of life, home, and schedule.
Patience and compassion go a long way when welcoming a senior dog into your home.
Lily is a good girl. She appreciates receiving affection and attention from people. Once she gets to know you, Lily will shine!
