Loki
Easy-going, well-socialized
We have heard so many good things about Loki. He is a dearly loved boy who is losing his long-time home because his owner has become very ill. Loki is an 11 year old, 100 pound, Northern Inuit. We looked up his breed and read that “breeders mixed Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, and German Shepherds to create a companion dog that looks like a wolf but has a friendly, domestic temperament.” He is magnificent!
Loki is described as an easy-going fellow who gets along with other dogs, kids, and cats. This special boy has been very well socialized. His person took him everywhere, including the local coffee shop, where he was considered a “star”! Loki loves receiving attention from people. He is more interested in humans than other animals.
His person was an elderly man who was home most of the time or took him almost everywhere. Loki would be happy to find another home where someone is home often, one where he can continue to get out and socialize. He can stay home alone when he needs to, without an issue. At this time, he can still manage quite a while before he needs a potty break during the day, and he can “hold it” overnight. Ideally, Loki will be able to come in and out of his house as he wishes. He enjoys hanging out in the yard or lounging in the house. Loki does very little barking.
Loki’s pace is said to be “slow and methodical”. However, he is still active. He will chase his ball, he enjoys playing with a neighbor’s dog, and he is accustomed to daily exercise. Loki does very well on leash. Obviously, Loki is a very big dog. One must consider this. He needs space.
Loki’s adopter should be willing and able to afford his veterinary care. Loki takes a daily allergy pill as well as a thyroid pill. He has had both skin and ear infections that have needed treatment. Loki’s adopter should provide care needed to keep his skin and ears healthy. His coat is lush and thick. We would guess he is a shedder; one should be OK with that! We are told Loki does not appear to have arthritis, but joint supplements could help him move his best. He can manage stairs now, but if those ever became difficult for him, he would not be easily carried!
While Loki is loved by many, there is no one who can keep him long-term. Loki needs a new home as soon as possible.
