Lovie
Bringing sweetness and joy!
Lovie is a 14-year-old spayed female chihuahua, who had been a companion to her disabled senior human for many years. When her owner could no longer care for her, they contacted Old Dog Haven to find a safe and quiet home for this darling girl. We were told Lovie had heart disease and was on medication, but she would eventually need a consultation with a cardiologist. She also reportedly had some minor spinal pain, as well as well as some potential vision and hearing issues. As you can see in her picture, she has a cute folded-down ear, a result of a of a previous hematoma, but we think it adds to her irresistible charm!
Lovie’s foster mom shares her progress from a timid, anxious dog to a loving and affectionate member of the family.
“On Lovie’s first day in her Final Refuge home, she sat by the front door, no doubt wondering where she was and when she could go back home. She was hesitant to eat and would shy away from touch. Over the next few days though, she started to relax, playing a little with toys and trying out all of the dog beds before settling on one she liked. Through Old Dog Haven, Lovie has had a thorough vet exam and an echocardiogram to check her heart. Results found she had pulmonary hypertension, mild heart and kidney disease and is now on medication and her condition is being regularly monitored. In the near future her cherry eye will also need to be addressed. After two months in her Final Refuge home, Lovie has decided her favorite place to be is on the sofa, preferably next to her foster mom. She also enjoys sitting up on the back of the sofa, watching out the window and barking at every person and dog who passes by. She has a surprisingly deep, loud bark for such a little lady! Lovie also likes to chase after and chew on her squeaky toys. It’s been a delight seeing Lovie’s personality emerge and how she has relaxed into her confident, affectionate self after such an enormous change in her life.”
We have no doubt that Lovie will be cherished for the rest of her days and your donations help fund her life-long medical care. We thank you for making a difference in the lives of dogs like Lovie, giving them the chance to enjoy a comfortable life with a family that loves her.
Update: After less than 4 months, Lovie’s health issues were just too much. It is amazing how such a little thing can become wrapped around your heart in such a short time. We take comfort in knowing that she received the very best care and so very much love. She has a permanent place in our hearts.
