Marsha
Finally safe and truly loved
Marsha, a 13-year-old German Shepherd, was found as a stray and brought to the shelter in very poor condition. Her aging body displayed the classic signs of long-term neglect after living years without the medical care she needed. She was almost deaf, had cataracts in both eyes, and a head tilt, likely a result of ongoing, untreated ear infections. She was underweight, and one ear was permanently crumpled down from a past hematoma injury. Her teeth were fractured and worn, her body was covered in dry, scaly skin, and she had painful arthritis. At her advanced age and with so many medical needs, the shelter staff determined that Marsha was not a suitable candidate for adoption.
Old Dog Haven was able to provide Marsha with a permanent foster home and immediate veterinary care. She received bloodwork, diagnostic testing, and X-rays. X-rays showed signs that she had an injury that fractured her ribs. She was prescribed medications to ease her painful arthritis, along with ear drops and immunotherapy injections to help manage her chronic allergies and skin issues.
Despite all she has been through, her foster mom describes Marsha as a goofy, friendly girl who enjoys car rides, strolls along the beach, and loves to keep a close watch on the neighborhood squirrels. Most afternoons, you will find her snoring on the couch or curled up in a cozy bed, finally safe and truly loved. Thanks to generous donations from our supporters, Marsha will always have the vet care she needs and the comfort and love of a forever home!
Update: Very sadly, Marsha’s health crashed suddenly yesterday and her foster family got a really nasty diagnosis of a horrible developing respiratory emergency. They have been SO very happy with her and she has been very happy with them. It was time to say goodbye and they are devastated.
