Nahla
Sweet and attention-loving
Darling Nahla arrived at her Old Dog Haven foster home after her owners could no longer care for her. At 13 years old, Nahla was described to us as gentle, loyal and calm and had unfortunately been living with many untreated medical issues that needed attention. She had a moderate heart murmur, a chronic cough, a mammary mass and most troubling were her frequent seizure-like episodes. Once safe in her permanent Old Dog Haven foster home, Nahla was seen by a vet who diagnosed her with advanced heart disease. She was prescribed daily medication, and it was recommended that she receive further x-rays and an ECG to monitor her condition. They also found she might have possible early kidney disease that will also be treated along with her other ongoing health issues.
Despite being very nervous at first, this sweet girl has definitely settled into her new home along with a “posse” of Old Dog Haven foster siblings. Her foster mom told us that she is now thriving and with medical treatment, is starting to feel so much better. Nahla enjoys exploring her backyard and loves to soak up the endless attention she receives in her new family. She looks forward to kisses, cuddles and her favorite belly rubs every day!
Her foster mom shares, ” It’s wonderful to think about the incredible, and often costly, care made possible by Old Dog Haven and its donors, all for one small, sweet dog like Nahla. She’ll now spend the rest of her life surrounded by love, furry friends, and the support she needs for the rest of her life.”
Update: Last night Nahla’s fosters had to say goodbye to her. It is likely heart disease overcame her though she had a whole lot of problems. She spent the last 8 months of her life safe in an Old Dog Haven home getting the best medical and home care possible. She was a spunky little buddy who will be sorely missed.
